The Autonomous Economy
How AI Agents, Stablecoins and Payment Infrastructure Are Shaping the Next Generation of Commerce

AI agents are moving beyond assisting users to increasingly making decisions and executing transactions on their behalf.
As agents begin to participate in commerce, a fundamental question emerges: What needs to happen before AI agents can safely move money?
This question provided the starting point for “Stablecoin-linked Agentic Commerce and Payments,” an industry roundtable convened as part of StraitsX’s AgentiX Playground initiative.
The roundtable brought together leaders across payments, financial services, AI, blockchain, and technology, including representatives from StraitsX, Visa, Google, AWS, Grab, Stripe, Finmo, Tazapay, Aave, Monad Foundation, Cyber Sierra and OKX, to explore what needs to be built for agentic commerce to move from experimentation towards real-world use.
The Autonomous Economy synthesises these perspectives into a practical framework covering:
- Defining Agentic Payments: establishing what distinguishes agentic payments from conventional automation and how agentic commerce may evolve.
- Infrastructure for Agentic Commerce: examining the infrastructure required for authorisation, orchestration and settlement.
- The Role of Stablecoins: exploring where stablecoins can complement existing payment infrastructure and support agentic transactions.
- Trust, Governance, and Industry Priorities: identifying the considerations around identity, mandates, controls, liability, auditability and interoperability.
